Application
According to TMC (the ATA's Technology and Maintenance Council) Recommended Practice RP1226 Messaging Standardization, some 2019 and newer heavy trucks such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack and Freightliner in North America are equipped with an Accessory Connector in the cab on the driver’s side behind dash, near the fuse panel. The truck owner can check the Body Builder Manual for more information.
ELD (Electronic Logging Devices), telematics devices or other aftermarket devices that require data from J1939, CAN or J1708 should be connected to this RP1226 Accessory Connector. Otherwise, the connections may not be warrantable.
If you have an device with an OBD2 16-pin port and you would like to connect it to a truck equipped with 14-pin RP1226 Accessory Connector, this cable is needed.
There is only one RP1226 Accessory Connector in the truck. If you would like to keep the RP1226 Accessory Connector available after the OBD2 device is connected, this splitter Y cable is a good choice.
